How to Play Pai Gow Poker

Pai Gow Poker originated from the Chinese, however, a man named Fred Wolf, a casino owner in Los Angeles, California loved the domino-like game the Chinese were playing & decided to put his own poker spin on it to make it a casino game. Pai Gow poker can be found in casinos all over the world & online! Pai Gow Poker is played with 52 cards & 1 Joker, 1 dealer & 6 players. The goal in Pai Gow Poker is to overcome the banker which in Pai Gow, is either a player or the dealer. Everyone is dealt seven cards, from this two poker hands need to be made including a five card hand & a two card hand.

The two cards are usually in front of the player which is why it is called the “in front” & the five cards are called “the behind” The five card hand must beat the two card hand. & in order to beat the banker the hands of one player must beat the banker if only one hand beats the banker it is called a push and if neither hands beat the banker’s hands, the player loses.

In Pai Gow Poker, when there is a tie the player will lose. Pai Gow is one of the longer games in the casino which has a lot of pushes involved during gameplay. Four cards are always left over in any game even if the table is full this hand is called the “dragon hand” Some casinos will allow you to bet on this hand whereas others may not because your strategy may be immature for betting on this hand & because you have already seen your hand.
